The official description of Akuma:

Cream puff with decadent whipped vanilla filling.

Cream puffs filled with vanilla whipped.

The name “Akuma” made me think of many oriental sweets. I did not expect a cream puff.

The olfactory examination of Akuma leaves no doubt about the creamy nature of the product. A custard perhaps, not particularly faithful to the classic recipe, which rests its olfactory structure on intense notes of vanilla and caramel. Notes of cream and slight hints of ethylmaltol make the test inviting, intriguing.

Vanilla Flower

I proceed without hesitation to the vaping test. Akuma reveals a lively custard taste at the very first breath … not very convincing in reality. Not well built and – as noted in the olfactory test – not faithful to the classic recipe. After all, the producer does not speak of custard. In fact, Akuma‘s tail notes glide towards a dominant taste of whipped cream filled with caramel and vanilla. Precisely in the final notes we can intercept a complex sweetening. One of the correctors used seems to be ethylmaltol. There is the sensation of vaping something different from the usual, but this feeling does not last long. But above all … where is the cream puff !?

Inevitably, the initial enthusiasm impacts with reality. Akuma seems poor in aromatic content – despite the scent it seems to indicate a stimulating bouquet. The recipe seems too unbalanced towards the exaltation of the creaminess of vanilla. A cheap and artificial vanilla. All the other ingredients undergo this disproportion, almost to disappear. So it remains little, after a few ml, of the initial custard notes. Everything is “fat”, creamy, vaporous, but boring. Terribly boring!

It seems clear to me that in the intentions of the producer there was … the desire to simulate a mixture of custard cream and cream. It came out a mess that speaks only of vanilla. Banal vanilla and cream. I do not think it’s enough to be a fan of vanilla (I’m not) to appreciate this creation of Modus Vapors! It takes perhaps a dose of “masochism” … also.

Pros: Very steamy.
Cons: Banal … anyone with two flavors could do better.
