Our long tobacco journey takes me today to the Far East and precisely to Indonesia on the Java island, in the Besuki district where the homonymous tobacco is grown, used almost exclusively as a wrapper in the mechanical manufacture of cigars thanks to its broad and resistant leaves. Besuki tobacco is an air cured tobacco that has characteristics very similar to the tobacco belonging to the oriental category, although in reality it is not part of it.
So I am going to test this Indonesian tobacco for the occasion thanks to the aroma manufactured by the Italian company Blendfeel and belonging to its very large “Tobacco aroma” line, already awarded for two consecutive years (2018-2019) as the best tobacco line according to the judgment of our team.
Blendfeel thus officially describes its Besuky Raw aroma:
Nativo dell’isola di Giava, il Besuky è un tabacco indonesiano dalle foglie sottili e tipicamente povere di nervature. Utilizzate come binder o wrapper, il sentore fortemente vegetale e fresco in inspirazione ne definisce l’originalità e l’unicità, donando quell’accento esotico e variegato ad un bouquet aromatico particolarmente ricco.
Native to the island of Java, Besuky is an Indonesian tobacco with thin leaves and typically poor in ribs. Used as a binder or wrapper, the strongly vegetal and fresh scent on inspiration defines its originality and uniqueness, giving that exotic and varied accent to a particularly rich aromatic bouquet.
Besuky Raw, like the whole “Aroma di Tabacco” line, is a concentrated 10 ml aroma to be mixed between 6% and 12% in a recommended base 40 PG/50 VG/10 H2O or in a 50/50 base. I have already spent several times in the past to talk about the quality and the packaging information completeness of these products, an example to follow for its precision and accuracy.
On the smell, Besuky Raw reveals itself with an evident herbaceous note that pervades my nostrils deeply, and gives the e-liquid the imprint of a light tobacco with a sweet base. Within the markedly vegetal frame, from the rear I seem to perceive faint and almost imperceptible spicy hints that, in a certain sense, help me to bring this aroma close to an oriental tobacco, even if it is not at all, as already mentioned above.
The puff in inspiration strongly reaffirms my olfactory sensations and puts me in front of strong vegetal hints that unequivocally outline the vaping characteristics of Besuky Raw. The aromatic score appears beyond any doubt soft and delicate, with a clear sweet address.
The shades that prevail are the wet and grassy ones typical of many oriental tobaccos and not only; the aroma, thanks also to its high sugar content, proves graceful, sinuous with lines and feminine bearing. In the central phases of the puff, together with the perennially fresh and grassy background, I can perceive light and spicy insertions, just enough to make this e-liquid on the aromatic characteristics of a lovable green tea. The score retains always docile and graceful tones but is never particularly multifaceted. It is the plant footprint that characterizes Besuky Raw from the top to tail notes.
After conducting the vaping at very low powers (12-13.5 watts), I decide to give some gas and I go between 14.5 and 16.5 watts giving the aroma even more airiness. A change that is anything but drastic is clear, but sufficient to allow a very slight balsamic effect (eucalyptus?) to emerge in the tail of the vape, although unfortunately in my opinion the rise in temperature tends to distort the vegetal structure of the aroma. I have no doubts, Besuky Raw is more balanced and natural if I vape it at very low powers.
This aroma performed relatively well on both atomizers used, although, in my opinion, the challenge between Alpha and Limit was won by Luca Creations’ atom because it was able to slightly dampen the abundance of the vegetal note and the its sweetness, making it slightly drier and less cloying.
For lovers of organic tobacco extracts, Blendfeel’s Besuky Raw is a good opportunity to try a fairly unpublished, very sweet and delicate tobacco that, due to its characteristics, approaches oriental tobaccos, even if under the aromatic profile it remains a step below, due to a less complex and decidedly less multifaceted structure.
Suggested dilution: 10%
Steeping time: ready to vape, recommended 2-3 days
Pro: For lovers of organic tobacco, an excellent opportunity to try a little known tobacco
Cons: Similar to an Oriental but poorer from an aromatic point of view
