Renaissance, Kizoku’s Limit RTA redo the look

The Kizoku Limit atomizer (brand belonging to the Chinese manufacturer Vapeonly Technology), after a muted start on the Italian market, has earned a considerable and well-deserved consideration over time, proving to be a real revelation and one of the best low cost atomizers for MTL vape in the current year. By virtue of this success, the manufacturer has decided to make a sort of limited edition, a choice that will make happy many vaper collectors. Thus was born the Limit MTL RTA Renaissance edition that Kizoku offers in a well-kept and elegant package that we immediately go to observe.

IN THE BOX

1 x Limit MTL RTA Renaissance Edition
1 x spare glass tube
1 x PC tank, top cap and drip tip
1 x screwdriver
3 x screws
1 x cotton pad
1 x KCL1 coil (0.7 ohm)
1 x User manual
1 x Warranty card

DESIGN AND BUILD QUALITY

Just like its predecessor, the Limit Renaissance edition is also built in 304 stainless steel and has an engraving with a floral subject that in the manufacturer’s intentions should be a reminder or rather a tribute to the Italian Renaissance Age. The design is certainly very pleasant and refined, but it must be said that to the touch the engraving work is poorly finished due to the lack of an appropriate and fundamental sanding work on it (I hope it is an imperfection present only on the sample versions for youtubers and influencers). The 510 pin (not adjustable) has been improved in our opinion as it has been made a little more protruding, as well as the airflow control ring whose rotation now appears more contrasted than in the first version. Unfortunately we have to note a second imperfection on the main drip tip (the one combined with the “floral” version) which has a very slight lateral play due to two slightly too loose o-rings.

In conclusion, the construction quality of the Limit Renaissance, in the presence of an aesthetic improvement, while remaining good, is slightly lower in our opinion than that of the previous version, betraying a little the expectations and expectations on this new device.

FEATURES

The Limit Renaissance is a compact device with a diameter of 22mm, with a height of about 52 mm and a weight of 54.5 grams in the “renaissance” configuration; with the polycarbonate tank the atom is 54 mm high but its weight is drastically reduced to just 36 grams. The capacity is 3 ml in the standard version and 2 ml in the TPD version.

The atomizer is made up of eight pieces but it must be said, to reassure many readers, that it is not at all necessary to disassemble them all for the usual washing and cleaning operations. Starting from the top we have the 510 drip tip, the top cap, the upper part of the vaporization chamber, the glass tank, the lower part of the chamber with chimney, the deck, the ring for air regulation and the base. In the configuration with polycarbonate tank, the atom is made up of drip tip, top cap, tank, vaporization chamber with chimney, deck and base with airflow control ring.

The main feature of this atomizer is that it can be used both as a rebuildable (RTA) and as a head coil atomizer. To switch from one configuration to the other, simply unscrew the deck and replace it with the coil. To make the product as attractive as possible and absolutely performing, the manufacturer has decided to prepare this atom for the BVC Aspire Nautilus series coils, without a doubt among the best on the market for MTL vape. With the Renaissance edition, however, Kizoku has taken a further step, making the KCL1 coils in the 1.8 ohm version and 0.7 ohm one, in the aspect, needless to say, completely identical to the Aspire coils.

The deck is a single coil with opposing turrets with a 2 mm diameter hole under the coil. The space between the two turrets and the holr size for the cotton mustache suggest the use of a 2.5 mm diameter coil with a value around 1 ohm. The chimney is rather small and has three slots at the bottom for the e-liquid entering. In the upper part, the chimney ends with a 3.5 mm hole, which perfectly connects to the hole of the drip tip. The bottom air control has been designed to be used with different combinations: you can choose between a slot that is completely open and can be partialized to your liking, or you can adopt the solution with single holes (all with a diameter of 1.2 mm ) choosing from a minimum of 1 hole up to a maximum of 6 open holes.

COILING, WICKING AND FILLING

The use of the Limit Renaissance in the head coil configuration is as simple as you can imagine, as the coil must simply be unscrewed/screwed on the base and wait a few minutes after loading the liquid into the tank. What if instead if you use the rebuildable deck?

The Limit Renaissance like its big brother, in RTA configuration, requires a minimum of habit to use rebuildable systems, not so much for the positioning of the coil (very simple and intuitive), but rather for the cotton operations. In fact, a minimum of caution is required on the portion of cotton that must emerge from the small side slits of the trays. It is important not to press the cotton too much into the trays, leaving a minimum of space necessary for the e-liquid to rise towards the coil.

The e-liquid refill on the Limit Renaissance (top refill) is very simple with whatever tank is used; the stainless steel configuration is also equipped with a childproof system to prevent accidental opening of the atom. To fill the tank, simply turn the knurled ring of the top cap counterclockwise, and slide it by pushing at the small arrow drawn on the atom body. At this point, a filling slot will appear, equipped with a silicone (anti-leakage) membrane, where the spout of the chosen e-liquid bottle must be inserted. If you otherwise use the PC tank, simply unscrew the top cap and use one of the two large refill slots at the top of the tank. The solutions adopted by the manufacturer, although not new in the world of RTAs, have been made with great meticulousness and precision.

PERFORMANCES AND FLAVOUR

Because of its “dual” nature, it seemed necessary to test and analyze the performance of the Limit Renaissance in the two possible configurations, with coils and as rebuildable atomizer (RTA).

Test with Kizoku KLC1 coils

We used the 0.7 ohm KLC1 coils (12-20 watt vaping range) and the 1.8 ohm KLC1 coils (8-12 watt vaping range). The draw is precise and silent and the hit is far from negligible. No condensation problems or e-liquid leaks. Finally, the most important thing, the aromatic performance appeared very similar to that of an Aspire Nautilus 2s with its proprietary head coils, even if it seemed to us that the KLC1 coils are slightly less long-lived than the Aspire coils.

Test with rebuildable deck

As seen in the review of Limit RTA, the performance of the Limit Renaissance Edition with rebuildable deck is also excellent in our opinion. We are in the presence of a very silent, fluid atomizer with a laudable hit. The draw can vary from restricted flavor chasing to closed and contrasted MTL vape. In our tests, never a leak, never an annoying hiss or gurgling and absolutely no condensation problems under the drip tip. It is difficult to ask for more from an atomizer which, despite its simplicity, is capable of aromatic performances that border on perfection.

Thanks to a rather small vaporization chamber, the Limit is an atomizer that tends to be “dry”, and is therefore able to exalt itself with complex and slightly sweet fruity e-juices and with medium-strong tobacco blends. We are faced with an RTA that more than amalgamate and unite, tends to facet the components of e-liquids very well, which probably makes them lose a little bit with the creamy and tobaccos flavored e-juices, notoriously in need of atomizers capable to round the e-liquid aromatic structure. In the comparison between the two types of tanks, in our opinion, the “floral” stainless steel version wins the challenge because it is able to better dissipate the heat generated inside the small vaporization chamber.

TO CONCLUDE

The designers of the Limit Renaissance, on the wave of the success of the first Limit, have created a special edition Limit very pleasant from the aesthetic point of view but with some constructive imperfections. On the other hand, the aromatic performances do not change and remain of the highest level, both in a rebuildable and coil configuration, because this is, let’s always remember, a dual use atomizer, an aspect that makes it a very palatable device for a very large vaper audience.

Kriemhild (Vapefly)

Kriemhild (Vapefly)

Name: Kriemhild Sub Ohm Tank (Vapefly) – Atomizer – received by the manufacturer

Type: Head coil Atomizer

Colors: Black, Stainless Steel, Gunmetal, Black-Gold

Price: ~ € 45

Kriemhild a Vapefly giant atomizer to make big clouds

After the good success with the Brunhilde RTA, goes on the collaboration between the Chinese manufacturer Vapefly and the German team German 103 continues, founded by Martin Hartkopf (youtube channel “DampfWolke7”), which now presents a head coil atomizer for direct to lung vape lovers. Also for this new product, the creators decided to be inspired by the female characters of the mythological cycle of Siegfried and the Nibelungs, deciding to call the atom Kriemhild, the beautiful Gunther sister, king of the Burgundians, one of the main characters of the epic poem The song of the Nibelungs.

We start as usual by looking at the contents of the package.

IN THE BOX

1 x Kriemhild Tank
1 x Spare Glass
1 x O-rings and seals bag
1 x Ni80 Triple Mesh 0.15 Ohm Coil head (pre-installed)
1 x Ni80 Single Mesh 0.2 Ohm Coil head
1 x User manual

DESIGN AND BUILD QUALITY

The Kriemhild atomizer, made entirely of stainless steel (the manufacturer does not provide information on the type of steel), certainly does not go unnoticed under the aesthetic point of view; this tank remind me the Brunhilde MTL RTA, it may or may not like it, it certainly has an imposing appearance, I dare say Teutonic. The build quality appears very good, perfectly in line with the most recent productions of the major Chinese manufacturers. The processes are precise and free of burrs, good tolerances and seals of the O-rings, and overall the product is to be considered a mid-market product.

As for the design, as mentioned above, we are not dealing with an atomizer with sober and minimal lines, quite the opposite, here we are dealing with a massive, austere and bulky object (26 mm in diameter) which makes being flashy its strength, or perhaps weakness…

FEATURES

The numbers of the Kriemhild help us to understand why in the title of this review we defined it as a giant: 26.0 mm in diameter, 55.5 mm in height, about 87 grams in weight and 5 ml capacity.

The tank, whose appearance at first sight suggests to all intents and purposes an RTA, consists of five main parts: the base, a vaporization chamber with chimney (inside which is housed the coil), a glass tank, the top cap and the drip tip.

The base has a protruding gold-plated pin and is equipped with a double slot for the airflow control, which can be completely partialized and with a limit switch. The dimensions of the two slots are very generous (14.2 mm x 3.0 mm) and make it clear the type of vaping that awaits us with this device.

The large and rather low vaporization chamber to best accommodate the big coil made by the manufacturer, is equipped with four large fixed slots for the e-liquid inlet, which close automatically thanks to a bulkhead system in case of coil extraction, allowing the user to change it even when the tank is full.

On the top cap, in addition to the engraved name “Kriemhild”, there is (immediately above the name) a small arrow that indicates the sliding position of the top of the top cap to access to the large e-liquid refill hole.

The delrin drip tip has an 810 connection, is slightly flared and has an outlet hole with a diameter of approximately 10 mm.

COILING, WICKING AND FILLING

The Kriemhild coils use the plug&play system to be installed so you have simply to pull your old coil and press the new one inside the chamber. Equally simple is the filling action of the tank which is carried out, as mentioned earlier, from above by slightly lifting and then sliding the top cap of the atomizer. The refill hole is really large and allows you to fill the tank with any type of bottle.

PERFORMANCES AND FLAVOUR

From a technical point of view, the performance of the Kriemhild and its coils are absolutely impeccable even if it must be said that the draw, although always linear and precise, is a little noisy.

I will now focus on the analysis and the aromatic performances of the two coils in the box:

  • Ni80 Triple Mesh head 0.15 Ohm (pre-installed) – the production of vapor is massive from the minimum 50 W recommended by the manufacturer, the vapor is fat and full-bodied and is quite cold if you use it at the minimum wattage, pleasantly warm at 80 watts; as easily foreseeable, this coil is not at all thrifty in terms of e-liquid consumption. The aromatic restitution is really good especially with creamy mixes, while it is a bit difficult with the fruity recipes. Finally, there are some reservations regarding the life cycle of this coil which, from my tests has barely exceeded 10 days of life using e-liquids with 60/40 and 70/30 VPG ratio;

  • Ni80 Single Mesh 0.2 Ohm Coil head – also in this circumstance the vapor production is abundant with a slightly less fat yield than the Triple Mesh, which makes this coil a little more versatile and able to express itself better with fruity mixes than the Triple Mesh. However, it is understood that, in general, the optimal field of action of this coil is with of sweet and super creamy liquids. Aromatically speaking, its performance is good but in my opinion lower than the performance of the Triple mesh 0.15 ohm even if the positive aspect is that this head “drinks” less e-liquid and has a longer duration than the Triple Mesh (approximately two weeks).

TO CONCLUDE

Quality direct to lung vape without the commitment of rebuildable systems? Vapefly Kriemhild is an excellent response to this type of need, especially for those who are more prone to using sweet and creamy liquids. An atomizer that compared to a cost quite in line with other competitors products, offers more than good build quality and respectable performance, certainly above the market average.

Ares 2 MTL RTA (Innokin)

Ares 2 MTL RTA (Innokin)

Name: Ares 2 MTL RTA (Innokin) – Atomizer – received by Phil Busardo

Type: RTA Atomizer

Colors: Black, Silver

Price: ~ € 30

Innokin Ares 2 MTL RTA: just a restyling?

I think the Ares MTL RTA atomizer can be considered one of the most successful low-cost MTL devices released in the last three years. I affirm this not only because of its very respectable performances, but also because, without any official sales statistics, I note that its presence in vape shops all over the world is still quite widespread, demonstrating how successful this RTA has been and continues to be despite more than two years have passed from its release.

Innokin, the Ares manufacturer in collaboration with the famous youtuber Phil Busardo and Vapingreek (aka Dimitris Agrafiotis), recently decided to release the updated version of Ares, the version number 2. The official release of Ares 2 has coincided for me with a very welcome surprise. A few weeks ago I had the honor of being personally contacted by the vaping guru Phil Busardo who, having noticed that his atom was used in several past reviews on this blog, he offered to send me the shiny new 24 mm Ares 2. What an honor! Thanks Phil!

I start as usual by looking at the content of the package.

IN THE BOX

1 x Ares 2 RTA tank 24 mm
2 x Spare pre-built coils
1 x Cotton & wire set
1 x Spare screw set (flathead)
1 x Phil’s build tool
1 x Dimi’s build tool
1 x Screwdriver set
1 x Spare glass tube
1 x Spare o-rings
1 x Spare drip tip
1 x vape band
1 x Quick start guide

DESIGN AND BUILD QUALITY

Compared to the older brother, the Ares 2 not only maintains a good workmanship but even improves it with the implementation of some significant construction details: the sliding top cap for refill, the addition of a silicone membrane to protect the e-liquid refill hole, the detents for the airflow control, the improved seal performance of the o-rings and finally the slightly brushed stainless steel finish. The solidity and the material quality of the Ares 2 are immediately evident. And in addition, although it is a subjective evaluation, the product aesthetics appears more appealing, thanks to a more aggressive and modern design and to the carving on the base, which also improve the grip of the device when you have to disassembly it. At first glance it seems that the pupil surpassed the master in terms of design and manufacturing quality.

FEATURES

Innokin has produced the Ares 2 in two different versions, one with a diameter of 24 mm and 4 ml of capacity and a second version with a diameter of 22 mm capable of containing 2 ml of e-liquid. Diameter apart, the Ares 2 D22 and Ares 2 D24 have the same technical specifications: the height is 54.4 mm with the delrin drip tip and 58.7 mm with the stainless steel drip tip (in both cases excluded the 510 connector); the weight is approximately 70 grams, not exactly featherweight, but it’s a further evidence of its robustness.

The main parts of Ares 2 atomizer are four: drip tip, top cap with bell, glass tank and base with deck.

The two drip tips supplied (delrin and stainless steel) have both a flared shape and identically dimensioned inlet and outlet holes (diameter 3.6 mm). The black delrin drip tip differs from the stainless steel drip tip as it is lower (12 mm) and has a small protuberance at the bottom that serves as a block for the top cap sled. The steel drip tip is a classic 510 with a height of 16.3 mm.

The top cap, that makes a single piece with chimney and bell, features important innovations compared to the previous version, and I would add, they are significant improvements. The sliding top cap movement is very dry, precise and free of any lateral play. The refill slot has been protected with a soft silicone membrane (a common solution in many tanks) which prevents accidental liquid spills even if the atomizer is overturned.

The shapes of the bell, broad and rounded, and the chimney, short and slightly narrower than in the first Ares version, are substantially unchanged. After having observed the small but significant upgrades on the upper part of the atom, now let’s take a look at the more important and consistent improvements on the deck and the base. The deck, a dual post with opposing slots, is the same as its older brother, although the slotted screws of the first version have been replaced by two more handy cross-head screws.

The side plates, designed to protect the air hole under the coil from e-liquid remains, are now higher and can also be used to place the coil in the correct position on the deck. Last but certainly not least, the hole under the coil was implemented with the Cross Air Flow Control (CAFC) system.

By turning the CAFC with a small slotted screwdriver, it is possible to change the size of the hole under the coil from a larger slot running the length of the coil to a tiny hole.

The base of the Ares 2 features an important technical innovation as well concerning the bottom airflow selector. First of all a fifth hole of 0.8 mm diameter has been added so now there are five airflow control holes: 0.8 – 1.0 – 1.2 – 1.5 and 2.0 mm in diameter. The holes are located on a plastic plug and not directly on the stainless steel base.

As for the first version, the air selection ring is equipped with a 12 x 2.3 mm slot for multiple selection, and a single hole with a diameter of 2 mm. The detents for the airflow control ring facilitates the selection of the desired setting and also prevents accidental unwanted rotations.

COILING, WICKING AND FILLING

I must say: it’s very easy to rebuild the Ares 2, even for those who have little experience with this kind of vaping systems. Thanks to the tools designed by Phil and Dimitris, building a coil and positioning it correctly on the deck it’s easier then ever. The steps easy and simple to follow so that’s almost impossible to do something wrong. As with almost all RTA-atomizers, a little more attention is required for rewicking. Not so much for the length of the cotton ends – you can keep it longer on the bottom of the deck or simply cut them – but for the density.

It is advisable to fray the cotton a bit so that it’s not too pressed into the wick slots. As for the e-liquid refill, it is noticeable the improvement compared to the first ARES. The sliding movement of the top cap is now much more precise (if you use the black drip tip you have to remove it) and the refill is very simple thanks to the large filling slot protected with an anti-leaking silicone membrane.

PERFORMANCES AND FLAVOUR

The technical performances of the Ares 2 are impeccable and the atom has no weak point in my opinion. I think its added value is the airflow control which, thanks to the combination of the air holes on the base and the new CAFC under the coil, offers infinite solutions in terms of airiness, from a very tight and contrasted draw to a classic restricted flavor chasing. With no doubt the Ares 2 is more MTL oriented than the first version.

The draw is always fluid, linear and above all extremely silent, just as valid and sufficiently ergonomic are the two drip tips that deliver a good performance and do not snow any condensation. Personally and contrary to what I imagined, I found the black delrin drip tip more comfortable, despite being shorter than the stainless steel one.

I tested the new Innokin jewel with the three aromas recently made by The Flavourist in collaboration with the Italian manufacturer Officine Svapo. These are three natural tobacco extracts, because in Italy every MTL atomizer must first pass the litmus test of the organic tobacco. And because testing a MTL RTA with a rather complete range of organic tobacco, which are generally more refined and rich in facets, also allows us to understand with which types of e-liquids the tested device fits best.

The liquids tested on Ares 2 are: Poncho (single tobacco), Il Monco (tobacco blend) and Agua Caliente (tobacco flavored).

With Poncho, a medium-intensity single tobacco with characteristics similar to a Virginia but less sweet and with more body, the Ares 2 has shown an unexpected harmony: despite the tendency to emphasize the sweetest nuances of this tobacco, the Atomizer didn’t miss the body and depth of taste offered by this e-juice.

With Il Monco, a blend of medium strong dark tobaccos, the atom showed some difficulties both in revealing the characteristics of the individual tobaccos composing the blend and in showing their aromatic intensity and strength.

Lastly, with Agua Caliente, a blend of tobaccos flavored with American sweet potato and blackcurrant extracts, Ares 2 has shown an absolutely perfect aromatic performance, exactly as expected: ability to facet the individual components of the recipe and to enhance them in the different phases of the puff: from the initial tobacco tone, through the roundness of the sweet potato in the heart notes and the slightly acidic cues of the currant in the tail.

In conclusion, for the tests I personally carried out and for the technical characteristics of this atomizer (wide and round bell, short and narrow chimney), we can easily say that apart from the tobacco flavours, the Ares 2 is an enough versatile MTL RTA, though perhaps it gives its best with all kinds of creamy e-liquids.

TO CONCLUDE

With Ares 2 Innokin did not carried out a simple restyling of the atomizer, it worked on a product that features clear improvements and corrections of imperfections present in the first version instead. The result is in my opinion excellent and I’m not afraid to consider this atomizer one of the top in the category of low cost MTL tanks. The Ares 2 is worth much more than its approx. 30 euros selling price, not only for its performance but also for the truly remarkable equipment range.

The next step? As Italian I can only hope that Innokin will decide to produce in the future a MTL even more specific for certain types of organic tobacco extract. They will just need to implement some small features on a well-tested and reliable structure.

COG MTL RTA (Wotofo)

COG MTL RTA (Wotofo)

Name: COG MTL RTA (Wotofo) – Atomizer – received by the manufacturer

Type: RTA Atomizer

Colors: Black, Stainless Steel, Gunmetal, Gold, Blue, Rainbow

Price: ~ € 37

Wotofo presents COG its first MTL RTA

Today I am ready to test for you the COG RTA, the first MTL RTA atomizer made by the Asian manufacturer Wotofo in collaboration with the well-known youtuber “Suck my mod”. Wotofo, which acquired in the last  years international fame in the field of cloud chasing devices (i.e. the Profile atomizer line), now engages in the difficult test of a MTL rebuildable tank, hoping to repeat at least in part of the success with the Profile. It will be like this?

Let’s start as usual by looking at the content of the package.

IN THE BOX

1 x COG MTL RTA
1 x User manual
1 x Phillips screwdriver
1 x Spare parts bag
1 x Cotton bag
1 x Dual core fused clapton coil N80 30awg x 2 + 38awg 0.8 ohm
1 x Single strand coil N80 28awg 1.2 ohm

DESIGN AND BUILD QUALITY

The COG MTL RTA has a stainless steel deck with gold-plated pin and the lower part of the base is transparent. In fact, transparency is the leitmotif of this product, whose tank and top cap is made of PCTG ( polyethylene terephthalate-glycol), a plastic material that is increasingly being used in vaping, as it is able to resist very good both to shocks and corrosion, as well as being absolutely suitable for the most varied food uses (in fact, it complies with EU directive 10/2011 and FDA standards). At the moment, however, the use of this material in vaping is still in an early stage, so to speak, and the vast majority of vapers are not used to seeing hardware products made of polycarbonate. The natural consequence of seeing a polycarbonate atomizer is the feeling of  a product of modest quality that does not transfer a sense of strength and solidity. And this is, I admit, the feeling that the COG left to me once taken in the hands.

Aesthetically, however, the atom, in my humble opinion, has class to sell, above all thanks to the alternation of the metal parts and the transparent material; its lines are slender, light and modern. Transparency is ultimately the cross and delight of the COG RTA, because it gives a very attractive design but at the same time makes it seem qualitatively not up to many of its competitors’ products.

FEATURES

The COG MTL RTA has a diameter of 22 mm and is 44 mm high (excluding pin) for a total weight of only 35.5 grams and 3 ml capacity. For the dimensions just seen, it can be said with absolute certainty that this is a certainly compact and light atomizer. The COG is composed of four main parts: drip tip, top cap, tank with bell and chimney (it is possible to separate the tank from the bell/chimney for more thorough cleaning) and base with deck. The delrin drip tip is 12 mm long (510 connection excluded) and has a 3 mm diameter inlet hole and a 4 mm diameter outlet hole. The bell is quite large (13.6 mm internal diameter), flared on the outside and slightly rounded inside, while the chimney is very short and ends with a 3 mm diameter hole perfectly coinciding with the drip tip inlet hole. The distance between the bell and the tank is really small, which makes cleaning operations not easy unless you decide to disassemble the bell from the tank every time you wash the atomi (rather cumbersome due to a screw that is not easy to unscrew).

The most interesting and also most innovative part of Wotofo’s first MTL RTA is undoubtedly the basis with the deck, because it uses a widely tested but very effective system for the coil building and above all because it uses a new gear system to select the draw airflow. But let’s go in order and start by carefully observing the characteristics of the deck.

The deck, as I said earlier, although not unpublished in the sector, is made with meticulous precision and is well-made and more efficient than ever; the two tower for tightening the wire use a “T” spring loaded clamp system with spring managed by two cross screws, which facilitates the positioning of the wire and the coil building.

The great novelty of the COG MTL RTA, however, lies in the innovative double gear system designed to manage the airflow control of this device. The base is equipped with two fixed slots for the air inlet (about 5.5 mm wide and 1 mm high) which receive the air from outside and convey it under the deck where, thanks to the presence of two toothed gears, it is possible to change the diameter of the air outlet hole under the coil. On the air ring nut at the base of the deck, there are five points of different sizes, each corresponding to a different diameter of the air hole under the coil (0.8 – 1.0 – 1.2 – 1.4 – 1, 6 mm). To choose the desired hole, the ring nut will be rotated until the chosen point is aligned with a small “V” shaped cleat.

This idea of entrusting the air adjustment to a gear system capable of selecting the diameter of the air hole under the coil, is innovative and ingenious bu unfortunately almost totally ineffective. Despite the numerous attempts and passages between the different holes, is evident the substantial lack of differences in the airiness of the puff; probably a minimal and imperceptible difference can be perceived if you go directly from the 0.8 hole to the 1.6 one, even if I do not exclude that it may be a simple suggestion. The problem evidently lies in the fact that there must be an additional air passage to that of the hole selected on the gear. To want to sum up, I can say that the airiness of the COG MTL RTA is fixed and is to be considered a medium airy MTL vape. I would say that we are in the presence of a puff corresponding to an airflow hole of about 1.4 mm, maybe even a little more.

COILING, WICKING AND FILLING

This device is certainly well-liked on the coiling, wicking and filling side, even for the consumer without experience with rebuildable systems. COG is the ideal RTA for those who must take their first steps in these kind of systems. The positioning of the coil on the deck is greatly facilitated by the clamp system and it will not be complicated at all to center the coil precisely between the two posts. A pinch of attention should instead be paid to the wicking, choosing the correct length and the right thickness of the cotton to be inserted inside the two slots. It is important that the cotton does not reach the bottom of wick holes and that it does not get into the slots too pressed. I recommend to fray it a bit and make it as fluffy as possible to prevent the atom from having feeding problems by going dry.

Finally, the tank filling operation is absolutely simple and convenient, which is done from above using one of the two fill ports located on top of the tank itself. The tip of any bottle will enter the buttonhole without the slightest mood.

PERFORMANCES AND FLAVOUR

Before dealing with the analysis and the COG aromatic performance, I will quickly discuss its technical performance which, with the exception of the air regulation problem seen above, is of undoubted quality. I really liked the drip tip both for its ergonomics and for its outstanding performance without any condensation problem. Perhaps the only small flaw found is the tendency of the atom to warm slightly even at low wattages.

As a MTL vape atomizer, I didn’t waste time testing the COG MTL RTA with the three liquids recently made by The Flavourist in collaboration with the Italian manufacturer Officine Svapo. These are three natural tobacco extracts, because in Italy, every self-respecting MTL atomizer must first pass the nine test of an organic tobacco e-juice. The e-liquids tested on COG are: Poncho (single tobacco), Il Monco (tobacco blend) and Agua Caliente (tobacco flavored).

With Poncho a medium intensity single tobacco with characteristics similar to a Virginia but less sweet and with more body, the COG did not perform well. The aromatic restitution did not seem to me up to expectations and the vapor showed a slightly kneaded and too sweet aroma.

With Il Monco, a blend of medium strong dark tobaccos, the atom was not able to show the many nuances of this blend, perceiving a rather fat, but above all confused and too uniform aroma.

Finally, with Agua Caliente, a blend of tobacco flavored with American sweet potato and blackcurrant extracts, COG has shown a clear tendency to emphasize the aromatic cues of currant, obscuring the more delicate flavor of the sweet potato and making the tobacco blend so confused and altered.

Ultimately for the shape of its bell, for the reduced length of the chimney and for its fairly generous airiness, I believe that this RTA is more inclined and more suitable for other types of liquids, for example creamy and simple fruity liquids tending to be sweet.

TO CONCLUDE

Wotofo’s first MTL RTA is an entry level product which is aesthetically very refined but with some technical flaws, above all the innovative airflow system that does not work as it should. From the aromatic point of view, the atomizer is unsuitable for organic tobacco or for dry synthetic tobacco, while it performs rather well with creamy e-liquids and more generally with e-juices that do not fear a uniform, fatty and sweet flavor.

Discovering Profile 1.5, the upgrade of the most famous Wotofo dripper

Wotofo is an Asian manufacturer well-known within the hard vapers community for its some particularly innovative, high-performance atomizers with an excellent commercial success in recent years. But if I had to choose the atom that best represents the qualities of this manufacturer, I would certainly say the Profile RDA. And today I’m here to talk to you about the upgrade that Wotofo has made for its best dripper, the Profile 1.5 RDA, also in this circumstance made in collaboration with the youtuber Mr. Justight 1.

Let’s start as usual by looking at the content of the package.

IN THE BOX

1 x Profile 1.5 RDA
1 x User manual
1 x Extra drip tip
1 x Bending tool
1 x Accessory bag
1 x Allen key
1 x Cross head screwdriver
3 x Thick X-fiber 6 mm cotton strip
1 x nexMESH CHILL A1 0.15 ohm
1 x nexMESH TURBO A1 0.13 ohm
1 x nexMESH EXTREME A1 0.16 ohm

DESIGN AND BUILD QUALITY

The atomizer is made of stainless steel with a gold-plated pin (the manufacturer does not provide information on the type of steel and on the gold plating). The build quality appears very good, perfectly in line with Wotofo’s productions and in general with the recent creations by the most famous Chinese manufacturers on the market. I did not find any type of defect or manufacturing inaccuracy and also the choice to have replaced the double o-ring on the deck with a single one thicker o-ring, further improved the removal of the top cap from the deck without compromise its correct seal.

Aesthetically, on the outside the Profile 1.5 it’s quit similar to its older brother, except in the structure of the airflow; the big difference is in the airflow now made up of two blocks of 10 holes each arranged in two rows of five (in the previous version the airflow consisted of a beehive structure with 19 small holes). Internally, however, the differences between the first version of Profile and the latter 1.5 are more evident than ever. The deck is much more spacious and therefore houses much more cotton and, consequently, the inside of the top cap has become significantly thinner.

In general I can say that the Profile 1.5 with its clean and classic lines and thanks to the excellent workmanship and the low price, appears a very competitive and attractive product on the market.

FEATURES

Profile 1.5 is a single mesh coil dripper; it has an external diameter of 24mm, while internally the diameter of the deck is 22.5mm. It is 33 mm high and weighs only 34.5 g. The dripper is therefore relatively compact and light compared to the average of its competitors. The parts that compose it are four: deck, atom body, top cap and drip tip.

The most interesting part of Wotofo’s new Profile is undoubtedly the deck which, as mentioned above, has been expanded compared to the original version. The ceramic base that houses the cotton has been enlarged and made with a wave design (and not simply concave), in order to guarantee a better lateral distribution of the liquid. Even the spring under the ceramic base has been replaced by a larger and stiffer one to allow the cotton to be well crushed and to adhere perfectly to the mesh coil. The mesh is tightened by means of a clamp system managed by two cross screws.

The air control system has also been modified on Profile 1.5, and the beehive structure with 19 holes has been replaced by a more classic and probably more airy solution (judging by the size of the individual holes) of 10 holes (arranged on two rows) for each of the two air inlet sides. It is possible to use the airflow of Profile 1.5 with different combinations of hole opening. Starting from the “completely closed” air position and turning the top cap clockwise, the holes will first open vertically from right to left until reaching the “completely open” position; therefore, continuing to rotate clockwise, the holes in the upper row will begin to close one at a time, then move on to closing the holes in the lower row until they return to the “completely closed” air position. The combinations are really numerous even if perhaps the vertical hole opening / closing option seems not very useful and functional.

The last component of Wotofo’s Profile 1.5 RDA is the 810 drip tip supplied in two versions: a higher one and a second lower. Both tips have a 9mm diameter hole. As much as I imagine there are vaper who like so much smaller drip tips, I found the higher tip more practical, comfortable and functional.

COILING, WICKING AND FILLING

Profile 1.5, like its big brother and in general all RDA mesh systems, is an atomizer designed and intended for advanced users. The more experienced vaper will have no difficulty in building this atomizer, but it must be said that it is still a system that requires much more attention and meticulousness than other classic systems.

Wotofo included in the package all three types of mesh strips designed for this device. The strips are 17 x 8.5 mm, slightly wider than the first Profile version; for this reason, perhaps, the owners of the original Profile will turn up their nose a little in realizing that they probably cannot use their old meshes on Profile 1.5.

Before placing the mesh on the atomizer it is necessary to wind it on the bending tool supplied to give it a semi-spherical shape. Once this is done, you can proceed with its positioning and tightening on the deck. The operation is very simple although it is likely that once tightened, the mesh will have to be slightly shaped to give it as precise as possible an arched shape. At this point it is necessary to initialize the mesh with short and continuous activations at moderate wattages to check and eliminate the presence of any hotspots.

Once the mesh is correctly positioned, it is possible to pass one of the pieces of Wotofo cotton through the mesh strip. The operation is in this case very easy, thanks also to the presence of the spring under the ceramic base which greatly facilitates the placing of the cotton. Once the surplus has been cut, the cotton mustache can be comfortably housed inside the two large juice well.

Finally, particular attention must be paid to spraying cotton with the e-liquid that will be used; to avoid unpleasant dry shoots, the cotton must be thoroughly soaked with liquid before starting to vape.

PERFORMANCES AND FLAVOUR

On the premise that I am a vaper much more specialized in MTL vape, I tested the performance of Profile 1.5 in bottom feeder configuration using all three meshes supplied and I came to the following conclusions:

  • nexMESH CHILL A1 0.15 ohm (indicated vaping range 60-80 watts): it is the mesh most similar to those of the first Profile version and produces a large quantity of thick and fat vapor. The aromaticity is good, the aromatic spectrum quite broad and round and at 60 watt vapor tends to be a cooler vape (especially when compared to the other available meshes).
  • nexMESH TURBO A1 0.13 ohm (indicated vaping range 60-80 watts): also in this case at 60 watts the aroma is full-bodied, round and very aromatic; the vape is warmer than the CHILL mesh and produced huge quantities of dense clouds.
  • nexMESH EXTREME A1 0.16 ohm (indicated vaping range 60-80 watts): in my opinion very similar to the TURBO mesh, perhaps with an even more copious and warmer vapor production. Also in this case, aromatically speaking, the performances are really very good even if, for my personal tastes, the temperatures are perhaps too high.

Ultimately, the Profile 1.5 has outstanding performances for a real satisfactory cloud chasing vape. The aroma is always full bodied and tends to be fat and sweet, making it perfect for creamy recipes in which the sugar components are rightly emphasized. The only caveat: be ready to squonk or drip with a certain frequency because the e-juice consumption is exorbitant.

TO CONCLUDE

Wotofo brought some interesting improvements to its most successful atom and therefore for cloud chasing lovers, with Profile 1.5 there will certainly be great satisfactions.

Limit MTL RTA (Kizoku)

Limit, the dual use atomizer by Kizoku

For today’s review decided to tell you about a new atomizer, actually already present on some Italian shops, but which so far it seems to us has gone quite unnoticed to the italian public. The atomizer is the Limit by Kizoku (a brand belonging to the Chinese manufacturer Vapeonly Technology). The Limit has a singular (and perhaps unpublished in our memory) feature, it is a dual use atomizer that can be used both as a rebuildable atomizer (RTA) and as clearomizer (premade coils). Its field of use ranges from pure MTL vape to restricted flavor chasing (restricted DL).

We will look closely at the Limit to understand if the apparent disinterest shown by our market towards it is justified or not.

We begin to observe it starting as usual from the contents of the package.

IN THE BOX

1 x Limit atomizer
1 x Spare glass tube
1 x Screwdriver
2 x Screws
1 x Cotton pad
1 x Spare silicon o-ring
1 x MTL coil
1 x User manual
1 x Warranty card

DESIGN AND BUILD QUALITY

The Limit, built entirely in 304 stainless steel, does not present any type of construction imperfection, is well made and leaves a good sense of solidity in the hand. We believe that it cannot be included in the top end of the range high end atomizers, but in our case its construction quality is unquestionably good for the entry level market segment. Appreciable are the technical solutions of the knurled finishes of the top cap for the refill and of the airflow ring, functional and at the same time also visually pleasing.

The only notes that can be made to this product in terms of construction quality, concern the 510 pin (not adjustable) that is very little protruding, such as not to make it probably ideal for use on mechanical mods, and the airflow ring  whose sealing o-ring appears a little too loose. Beyond these, however, minimal imperfections, the Limit convinced us for its features and also for the sober and clean design that distinguishes it.

FEATURES

The Limit is a compact device with a diameter of 22mm, with a height of about 56mm and a weight of just over 55g; the capacity is about 3 ml (although some sites and the sample packaging in our possession indicate only 2 ml of capacity).

It consists of eight pieces in total but it must be said, to reassure the many readers, that it is not at all necessary to disassemble them all for the usual washing and cleaning operations. Starting from the top we therefore have the 510 drip tip, the top cap, the upper part of the vaporization chamber, the glass tank, the lower part of the chamber with the chimney, the deck, the airflow ring and the base.

The main feature of this atomizer is that it can be used both as a rebuildable (RTA) and with premade coils. To switch from one configuration to the other, simply unscrew the deck and replace it with the head coil. To make the product as attractive as possible and absolutely performing, the manufacturer decided to suit this atom for the BVC Aspire coils of Nautilus 2 series, without a doubt among the best (if not the best) on the market especially for the MTL vape .

The deck is a single coil with opposing turrets with a 2mm diameter hole under the coil. The space between the two turrets and the size of the trays for inserting the cotton suggest the use of a 2.5 mm diameter coil with a resistive value (in our opinion) between o, 8 and 1.3 ohm. The chimney is rather small and has three slots at the bottom for the e-liquid inlet. In the upper part, the chimney ends with a 3.5 mm hole, which perfectly connects to the hole of the drip tip. The bottom air control has been designed to be used with different combinations: you can choose between a buttonhole completely open and partialized to your liking, or you can have fun with the solution with single holes (all with a diameter of 1, 2 mm) choosing from a minimum of 1 hole up to a maximum of 6 open holes.

COILING, WICKING AND FILLING

It is very easy to use the Limit in clearomizer configuration, as the head coil must simply be unscrewed/screwed back on the atom and then wait a few minutes after loading the e-liquid into the tank. But let’s see what happens if you use the rebuildable deck. If you use the Limit in RTA configuration and you have a minimum of knowledge with this type of systems, the coil insertion operations will be easier and more immediate than ever. The positioning of the cotton is also quite easy, even if a minimum of care is required on the portion of cotton that will have to emerge from the small side slits of the trays. It is important not to press the cotton too much into the trays, leaving a minimum of space necessary for the e-liquid to rise towards the coil.

Also the e-liquid refill on the Limit (top refill) is very simple and absolutely safe, thanks to a childproof system that prevents even the slightest leakage. To fill the tank, simply turn the knurled ring of the top cap counterclockwise, and slide it by pushing at the small arrow drawn on the atom body. At this point, a filling buttonhole will appear, equipped, among other things, with a silicone (anti-leakage) membrane, where the e-liquid bottle beak must be inserted. The solutions adopted by the manufacturer, although not new in the world of RTAs, have all been created with incredible meticulousness and precision.

PERFORMANCES AND FLAVOUR

Precisely because of its “dual” nature, it seemed necessary to test and analyze the performance of the Limit in the two possible configurations, with premade coils and as rebuildable atomizer.

Test with Aspire Nautilus BVC heads

We used the 0.7 ohm BVC head coils (18-23 watt vaping range) and the 1.8 ohm BVC head coils (10-14 watt vaping range). The puff is precise and silent and the hit is far from negligible. No condensation problems or liquid leaks. Finally, the most important thing, the aromatic performances appeared identical to those of an Aspire Nautilus 2s, the latest from to the large Nautilus family; to be clear we are in the top of the range in terms of performance in the field of head coil atomizers for MTL vape.

Test with regenerable deck

From one excellent performance to another. The Limit surprised us a lot also and above all as RTA atomizer. Very silent, fluid and with a commendable hit. The puff can vary from restricted flavor chasing to closed and contrasted mouth to lung vape. In our tests, never a leak, never an annoying hiss or gurgling and absolutely no condensation problems under the drip tip. It is difficult to ask for more from an atomizer which, despite its simplicity, is technically perfect … Especially if you add to it all high quality aromatic performances.

Thanks to a rather small vaporization chamber, the Limit is an atomizer that “dries” (as they say in jargon), and is therefore able to enhance the aromatic scores of complex but slightly sweet fruity e-liquids and dark tobacco blends. We are faced with an RTA that more than amalgamate and unite, tends to facet the components of e-liquids very well, which, wanting to be picky, probably makes it lose a little something with the creamy and creamy tobacco flavored e-juices, notoriously in need of atomizers able to round the aromatic structure of an e-liquid.

In general, the Limit unleashed very high quality performances, going beyond all limits of our expectations. Chapeau!

TO CONCLUDE

The Limit designers, starting from widely tested solutions in the sector, created a simple atomizer with excellent performance. And then there is the gem of dual use which, as it may seem only the prerogative of an entry level user, in reality this is not the case, believe it. Scout’s honor!
