With the new Luxe PM40 Vaporesso challenges one of the most successful pod mods

Vaporesso has recently launched another pod system, the Luxe PM40 which, it is useless to hide it, promises to challenge one of the most successful pod mods on the market. I remember that due to our editorial policy, within a review of a product, we never talk and mention similar products or other brands competitors and therefore forgive me if even in this circumstance I will not name the product to which the Luxe PM40 makes the verse. More experienced vapers will have no difficulty to understand which product it is, but here what matters most to me is to analyze and test the new Vaporesso creation and judge it independently from comparisons with other systems.

I start as usual, reporting the contents of the package of the product received.

IN THE BOX

1 x LUXE PM40 Battery
2 x LUXE PM40 Pods (4ml)
1 x GTX 0.6 ohm Mesh coil
1 x GTX 0.8 ohm Mesh coil
1 x USB type-C cable
1 x User manual
1 x Warranty card

DESIGN AND BUILD QUALITY

With the Luxe PM40 Vaporesso created a device that, from my point of view, has the classic shapes and appearance of a pod mod. When I think of a pod mod in fact, I imagine a device with the shape more or less similar to that of a highlighter marker, with a compact but not exactly minute appearance and which at the same time transmits a feeling of solidity and robustness. The Luxe PM40 by Vaporesso embodies exactly these characteristics, with a refined and modern stylistic touch.

The pod mod is presumably built in zinc alloy (the manufacturer has not provided any information on this) and has a very high build quality in my opinion, with sublime finishes to say the least. From an aesthetic point of view, while not presenting an innovative design as, as previously mentioned, the system is inspired for obvious reasons of competition by the pod mod of another famous Asiatic brand, the Luxe PM40 has an incredibly elegant and very captivating livery . The “lava” model in my possession I assure you that it is beautiful and absolutely not gaudy. In short, Luxe PM40 fully reflects all the quality and aesthetic sense that has distinguished Vaporesso products for years.

FEATURES

Luxe PM40 measures 96.3 x 30.4 x 21.3mm, weighs around 93 grams and is equipped with an integrated 1,800mAh battery. On the bottom of the mod there is a 2A USB type-C port for battery charging, which I estimated to be around 65 minutes (not super fast). On the side there is a 0.69 “(35 x 10 mm) black and white display showing the value of the coil, the puffs and the battery charge level (displayed both with the classic icon and also numerically as a percentage). From its name it is easy to guess that the device can reach a maximum of 40 watts.

The circuit that manages the delivery of the mod is the Vaporesso Axon chipset, a very performing circuit that I have extensively talked about in previous reviews of the manufacturer. A very simplified version of the Axon chip has been installed on the Luxe PM40 that allows the user to act only on the regulation of the vape power as well as obviously on the switching on and off of the device.

The wattage adjustment operation is carried out by quickly pressing the fire button three times (the only button the pod mod is equipped with) and, when the wattage indicator flashes, press the button again until the desired power is reached. Once the watts are set, after 5 seconds the circuit automatically returns to block to prevent accidental watt variations.

Another important element of the Luxe PM40 is a small lever for adjusting the airflow located on the opposite side of the fire button. This lever slides sideways (even if it must be said that sliding is not the most fluid) from left to right (and vice versa) and goes to partialize the opening of three small lateral air hole (one on one side and two on the opposite side) for air inlet.

As already observed in the case of the pod mod XROS, the airflow control of the Luxe Pm40 only significantly changes the airiness of the device, within a rather limited range of action, which oscillates between a classic flavor chasing and a medium airy MTL vape, partly due to a shell-shaped drip tip (PCTG material) with a fairly generous exit hole.

Vaporesso Luxe PM40

Regarding the pod, Vaporesso supplied two transparent pods in the package (capacity 4 ml in the standard version and 2 ml in the TPD version) and two mesh coils from GTX series with a value of 0.6 ohm (range 20-30 watts) and 0.8 ohm (range 12-20 watts). The Luxe PM40 pod presents a very interesting constructive novelty that the manufacturer defines “e-liquid self-circulation system” and which basically provides for the presence of a double chamber, one higher up to house the e-liquid and one lower down where it is fix the lower part of the coil with its two o-rings.

COILING, WICKING AND FILLING

The pod fits inside its housing without the use of magnets but simply interlocking; the system is effective both in terms of stability and anchoring and furthermore it is not necessary to follow a precise direction of insertion. The coils, for their part, take advantage of the now widespread push and pull system to insert and be removed from the cartridge and this, together with the new double chamber pod structure, allows to reduce practically to zero the age-old problem of condensation that afflicts the overwhelming majorities of pod systems on the market. After a week of constant use, my Luxe PM40 is perfectly dry.

For the e-liquid refill, Vaporesso has reused the XROS refill system. It is therefore necessary to remove the black drip tip by pulling it towards you. The system is snap-on and if in the case of the XROS due to its smaller size, it was not very practical, with Luxe PM40 the removal of the drip tip is simple and easy. Once the drip tip has been removed, you can refill your cartridge using the hole with a black membrane placed on one side of the cartridge.

PERFORMANCES AND FLAVOUR

An element of great value talking about the Vaporesso Luxe PM40 is undoubtedly the capacity and duration of its battery, praiseworthy especially if you obviously use the device at low-medium wattages. Being personally a lover of MTL vape, I was able to verify with the 0.8 ohm coil an autonomy of several hours or in terms of e-liquid vaped of almost two complete refills (between 6 and 8 ml oscillating within a watt range between 12 and 16 watts). I also tried the 0.6 ohm coil, settling in a range between 25 and 30 watts; with this configuration I was able to vape about 4-5 ml of liquid before having to recharge the mod.

The draw of the Luxe PM40 is very clean and linear but not among the quietest in circulation; low wattages and completely closed air correspond to a more silent shot and vice versa. The hit in the throat is more than acceptable even with very low or no nicotine concentrations.

Vaporesso GTX coils

From an aromatic point of view, Vaporesso Luxe PM40 is an absolute excellence. The coils of the GTX series (more or less all) are an absolute guarantee in terms of amplitude and aromatic yield in general. The vapor is full-bodied (especially over 20 watts) but not too fat and this means that this pod system, although not able to offer a very tight MTL vape, also lends itself quite well to both synthetic and distillates organic tobacco e-juices, very successful at this time in Italy.

LUXE PM40 FINAL VERDICT

I have no doubts, Luxe PM40 is a flawless device with many pluses, in short, it offers super quality and performance. You will certainly find it in The Flavourist’s top ten of the best pod mods for quality/price ratio even if at the moment it seems to be marketed at a price slightly above the market average. Sometimes it may be worth spending a little more for a product that is essentially free of defects and more than ever performing.

Kizoku and its first side by side TC mod

Today I am going back to talk to you about Kizoku, a brand belonging to the large Vapeonly family that in the last year has stood out for the launch of rather innovative products and with a good aesthetic care. After the dual use Limit atomizer (proposed in two versions) and the Kirin tube, today is the turn of Techmod, the first VW-TC mod made by Kizoku brand. Techmod is a so-called side by side box that certainly does not go unnoticed from the first approach. We begin to observe it starting as usual from the contents of the package.

IN THE BOX

1 x Techmod
1 x USB cable type-C
1 x User Manual
1 x Warranty card

DESIGN AND BUILD QUALITY

Techmod’s build quality-design pairing immediately catches me as soon as I start handling the device. The box built mainly in zinc alloy with two parts in 304 stainless steel (battery compartment and the front part that contains the chipset), is well worked in every detail, it is massive and shows in my opinion an incredible constructive solidity. The design is Japanese and the style, innovative and very avant-garde, is defined by the manufacturer as “industrial” and in fact in my opinion it is very reminiscent. Without any doubt from my point of view, Techmod’s appearance is more modern than ever and absolutely captivating. First-class style and quality!

ERGONOMICS AND PORTABILITY

Techmod measures 78 mm in height, 49 mm in width and has a thickness of 24 mm; it weighs 146.5 grams without battery and just over 190 grams with battery included. It is not a heavyweight mod but not even a featherweight, indeed all in all I would say that its weight is quite substantial, which contributes to giving it a sense of great strength and stability. The portability, despite the weight that is anything but irrelevant, is more than good also because being a side by side mod it has the advantage of minimizing the projection of the atomizers that it is intended to accommodate (up to 24 mm in diameter).

Equally good, indeed more than good, is its ergonomics thanks to a slightly inclined design on the front, designed not only for a mere aesthetic impact, but also to ensure an excellent feeling in the hands. Indeed, the grip is undoubtedly comfortable and safe.

CHARACTERICTS, FUNCTIONS & PERFORMANCES

After appreciating the constructive and aesthetic qualities of the Techmod, we begin to observe its characteristics, functionality and performances. This side by side has a proprietary circuit with four delivery modes: VV, VW, TC and bypass. The manufacturer declares that the Techmod chipset, in addition to possessing the most common protection functions (overheat protection, low-Voltage protection and overcurrent protection), has an instant fire speed of only 0.001 seconds. In the practical test it did not seem to me that the box is equipped with all this incredible reactivity which, in any case, appeared to be good and in line with the majority of regulated mods currently on the market.

Well done, easily accessible and pleasant to the touch are the two function buttons at the bottom and the large fire button at the top. Next to the function buttons there is a bright 0.91″ black and white display (about 22 x 6 mm) which shows the chosen vape mode, the coil value, the battery status, the vape power and the duration of the last puff expressed in seconds. On the other side of the box there is finally a USB type-C port with 2A fast charging.

As I said earlier, the box can accommodate atomizers up to 24 mm in diameter and possibly with a height of no less than 30 mm to allow the atom drip tip to protrude sufficiently from the box. The battery compartment has the positive pole at the bottom and an open screw cap closure flush with the top of the mod. The thread of the cap is very fine therefore particular attention must be paid to the screwing phase. The cap in the hands of the cap is also a bit difficult, certainly not among the most comfortable in circulation.

The 510 atomizer connector has a floating pin and has a slight relief compared to the thread of the box; this means that any atomizer that is mounted will never completely hit the body of the mod. It is not a functional problem but the most fussy vapers will certainly notice this slight imperfection.

I close this large chapter on the features and functionality of the Techmod, talking about the battery and its management by the Kizoku chipset. Having made the necessary premise that battery life depends on many variables (type of battery, its capacity, modes and vaping powers), from my tests, carried out in VW on a range of 13-25 watts, I was able to see a rather sudden battery consumption, in any case slightly higher than other similar products tested in the same ways. Ultimately, the management of the battery life cycle did not seem optimal to me.

EASE OF USE

Let’s see now the very simple operating systems of Techmod:

  • Switching on/off = Press fire button 5 times within 2 seconds;
  • Switch Power Mode = Press fire button 3 time in quick succession then press “+” or “-“;
  • Adjust Power/Temp Settings = press button “+” or “-“;
  • Lock/Unlock Power Adjustment = press and hold simultaneously for 2 seconds “+” and “-” buttons.

To be honest, I always prefer this type of simplicity to the many innovation attempts that often produce the effect of making the box menu a real labyrinth within which it becomes really difficult to untangle.

TECHMOD FINAL VERDICT

Despite some aspects that in my opinion can be improved, my experience with the Kizoku Techmod, which I remember being the first side by side regulated mod by the Chinese manufacturer, is undoubtedly positive. The mod designed both for long-term vapers and also for the less experienced, can boast a high build quality combined with a modern and attractive design and also with extreme simplicity of use.

Hannya Nano Pod Mod (Vapelustion)

Hannya Nano Pod Mod (Vapelustion)

Type: Pod Mod

Colors: Black, White

Hannya Nano: a great packaging for a small pod mod

The subject of my review today is a tiny and compact pod mod made by the Chinese company Vapelustion which has only recently appeared on the great international vaping scene, and which objectively is still very little known in Italy and in general on the European market. The device that I am going to review is called Hannya Nano and, judging by the packaging, which is really large and rather accurate for the size of the object contained within it, it immediately seems quite clear to me that this pod system was designed mainly for Asian market and also for an average young audience.

But let’s proceed in order and begin to examine the contents of the package of the product received.

IN THE BOX

1 x Hannya Nano mod
2 x Spare metal panels
1 x USB Type-C cable
1 x User manual
1 x Lanyard
1 x Pod 1.2 ohm

DESIGN AND BUILD QUALITY

If you are a lover of traditional Japanese graphic arts, manga or anime typical of oriental culture, then surely this product from an aesthetic point of view will be able to capture your attention, also because its striking and extremely colorful design certainly does not go unnoticed. Hannya Nano has a classic rectangular shape with rounded corners, but it must be said that despite its small size it is certainly not a product with a minimal and sober style! From the construction point of view, the mod has a zinc alloy body with a plastic coating, while the side panels (removable even if not quite easily) are made of metal. The general feeling, also due to the “plasticky” sound of the mod once held, is that of being grappling with an extremely entry level object and almost a toy.

FEATURES

Hannya Nano measures 66 x 49 x 14 mm, weighs around 65 grams with a built-in 600 mAh battery. We are facing a product that certainly makes compactness and manageability its main weapon, but we cannot fail to point out that there are equally compact devices on the market, lighter and equipped with batteries with greater autonomy.

The device is recharged via the USB type-C port and a led light on the lower part of the mod reports the charging status (the LED flashes red during charging and turns white when charging is complete after about 20-30 minutes). The mod is equipped with a pod with integrated headcoil (not replaceable) with a value of 1.2 ohm; unfortunately the manufacturer does not provide other specifications on the pod, nor does it declare the delivery power.

The only information that is reported to us by Vapelustion is that the pod (capacity 2 ml) can be refilled for a maximum of 5-6 times (about 10-12 ml), which also leaves me a bit perplexed, as currently there they are devices on the market with pods with a life cycle of no less than 30 ml of e-liquid.

As an admittedly entry level product, Hannya Nano does not allow you to change/adjust any parameters of the vape. In this sense, the device is only equipped with automatic draw and hasn’t  on/off  button; during delivery, the LED light turns on to indicate the residual charge level of the battery (the red light indicates that the battery is discharged). The airflow of the device is also fixed and the resulting draw is a classic slightly airy MTL.

The Hannya Nano pod, as mentioned above, do not have a replaceable coil; it’s firmly anchored on the mod thanks to two good magnets which, however, do not prevent a minimum lateral movement. The drip tip, while presenting a rather square shape, is in my opinion equipped with good ergonomics and feeling on the lips.

COILING, WICKING AND FILLING

To replace a used pod, simply you have to remove it from the mod and insert a new one, paying attention to the its direction (the side with the refill cap must face the ring for the lanyard). To fill in the e-liquid inside the pod it is necessary to remove the black silicone cap and then refill using the appropriate refill hole. There is no an air vent hole but I have not encountered any problems whatsoever in refilling the pod.

A negative aspect of this pod system is determined by the fact that the pod once housed on the mod does not allow you to check the e-liquid level inside it and it will therefore be necessary to lift it and remove it from the body of the mod every time you want to check the residual e-liquid.

PERFORMANCES AND FLAVOUR

The combination of 600 mAh battery with 1.2 ohm coil and a vaping power (not declared) but in my opinion rather low, guarantees a good autonomy to the device which is around 4 milliliters of e-juice. The Hannya Nano draw is very clean and silent but it sins, not so much for the little vapor produced (secondary aspect for an e-cig), but rather for the almost absolute lack of throat hit and for an aroma that, although not despicable, it is honestly just above enough when compared to other competing systems.

From the aromatic point of view, bearing in mind that this pod mod is aimed at those who are about to try and buy for the first time an e-cig, the result is ultimately acceptable, but a vaper with a minimum of experience will find a certain incompleteness in the aromatic score of any e-juice with a minimum of complexity. The aromatic range seemed somewhat limited to me and this pod mod is certainly more suitable for mono-flavor and dry e-liquids.

TO CONCLUDE

Vapelustion for its first pod system seems to have paid more attention to the aesthetic impact (with an eye to oriental markets) than to substance. Hannya Nano is a device that, although it does not present problems in its operation, has in our opinion numerous limitations that cannot make it attractive except to a young audience looking for its first test and experience with an e-cig. Right now the pod mod market offers better solutions.

XROS Pod Mod (Vaporesso)

XROS Pod Mod (Vaporesso)

Name: XROS (Vaporesso) – Pod Mod – received by the manufacturer

Type: Pod Mod

Colors:Silver, Matt grey, Blue, Sky blue, Rose pink, Rainbow

Price: ~ € 25

Vaporesso promises to exceed the limit with XROS!

For today’s review I am going back to talk about an entry level pod mod, designed as the first device for those who decide to try for the first time an electronic cigarette. I am about to discover the characteristics and quality of the XROS by Vaporesso, a Chinese company that needs no introduction, having been one of the most active and avant-garde brands in the vaping market for almost a decade.

As usual, at the start of the article I report the contents of the package received.

IN THE BOX

1 x Vaporesso XROS device
1 x Vaporesso XROS 1.2 ohm (2 ml)
1 x Vaporesso XROS 0.8 ohm (2 ml)
1 x Type-C USB cable
1 x User manual
1 x Warranty card
1 x Reminder Card

DESIGN AND BUILD QUALITY

XROS is a pod mod that from the first approach appears quite small and manageable, even if it must be said to be relatively long and slender. It is built in 304 stainless steel and in my opinion has a very high build quality, especially if we consider that it is a low-end product. Aesthetically speaking, although it is not a system with a refined and innovative design, the XROS has a very pleasant and refined appearance. If you are a lover of minimal style, the XROS is the pod mod for you, a functional parallelepiped with rounded corners and clean and essential lines. In this circumstance, the Vaporesso designers did not allow themselves any aesthetic extravagance and paid attention to the point, creating a product with a classic line and easily “receivable” by all those who, not knowing the vaping world, are going to buy their first e-cig.

FEATURES

The Vaporesso XROS is 113mm high, 23mm wide and 13mm thick; the weight is only 50 grams, very few if you think that it is equipped with a battery of 800 mAh. If it is true that on the market there are pod systems with integrated batteries with larger capacities, it is equally true that they are still more big systems, while within the specific range of small and slender pod mods, XROS is in my memory the system with the largest battery. Charging is done via a 1A USB type-C port and a led under the activation button indicates the charging status (the LED flashes red during charging and turns solid green when charging is complete after only 30-40 minutes). The mod is equipped with two mesh pods with a resistive value of 0.8 ohm (maximum power 16 watts) and 1.2 ohm for a maximum output of 11 watts.

The Vaporesso XROS is equipped with both an automatic shot and an activation button, the same button also prepared for switching the mod on and off (five close clicks). During delivery, the LED light turns on to indicate the battery charge status through three different colors (green light charge between 100% and 70%, blue light 70% -30% charge, red light 30%-0% residual charge).

A very interesting feature on XROS and I add a more unique than rare feature on these types of devices, is the presence of an airflow control window with three small holes and a lever with which to adjust the opening and the airiness on vape. The XROS airflow control significantly modifies the airiness of the device, even within a rather limited range of action, which oscillates between a fairly restricted flavor chasing and a slightly airy MTL vape, partly due to a drip tip (PCTG material) with a shell shape (clamshell style) with a fairly generous exit hole.

The XROS cartridges have no replaceable coils and are anchored on the mod thanks to two powerful magnets that prevent any kind of minimal and annoying movement. The drip tip clamshell style has excellent ergonomics and in my opinion fits nicely to the vaper lips.

COILING, WICKING AND FILLING

To replace an old pod, simply extract it from the mod and insert a new one without even having to worry about the side of insertion. To proceed with the e-liquid refill is necessary to remove the black cap/drip tip by pulling it towards you. The system is snap-on and I do not hide the fact that, especially in the first removal attempts, I found some difficulties in carrying out this operation. Once the drip tip has been removed, the e-liquid can be refilled using the hole with membrane placed on one side of the cartridge (there is also a small air vent hole).

Another surplus of this system and its pods is the total transparency of the same which allows you to easily check the e-juice filling level.

PERFORMANCES AND FLAVOUR

An element of great value of the Vaporesso XROS is undoubtedly the battery capacity perfectly commensurate with the vaping powers of the system, a very well calibrated battery that is able to guarantee an autonomy of about 4-5 ml with the 0.8 ohm pod, and with the 1.2 ohm pod about 6-7 ml of e-liquid. Credit for these very good performances must certainly be attributed to the Axon chipset, a guarantee also in terms of safety functions. The XROS shot is superb, very quiet, very linear and with a decent hit (more accentuated with the 0.8 ohm coil); the only small flaw, found especially with the 0.8 pod, was sometimes a slight spit back especially when the liquid inside the tank is almost completely exhausted. Still talking about the draw, it must be said that I also noticed a lower reactivity of the device in automatic mode compared to the activation with the fire button, but nothing particularly annoying and alarming.

Finally, it is not negligible that the system after intense and prolonged use did not show any condensation problems under the pod, which is absolutely not obvious on this kind of devices.

From an aromatic point of view, Vaporesso XROS did not disappoint my expectations and this system seemed to me to have performances in line with the quality that has long distinguished the Asian manufacturer, and more generally an aromatic yield on average higher than the performance of many competing devices. In my opinion, the 0.8 ohm pod has a greater aromatic completeness and manages to perform very well with even quite complex flavor chasing e-juices. The vapor is full-bodied (considering it is a 16 watt vape) but not overly fat. The cartridge with 1.2 ohm coil, on the other hand, lends itself better with tobacco e-liquids or not particularly sweet fruit e-juices; the vapor is drier and even the aromatic range seemed slightly more limited to me.

TO CONCLUDE

Vaporesso XROS in summary is a device that works very well and I consider it perfect for all those who are about to buy their first e-cig. Ease of use, good yield, high level performance and a very competitive price. Better than this…

Enovap Plus (Enovap)

Enovap Plus (Enovap)

Name: Enovap Plus (Enovap) – Pod Kit – received by the manufacturer

Type: Pod System

Colors: Full Black, Silver

Price: ~ € 130

Enovap Plus, the smart device to control nicotine level

It comes from France, Enovap, the innovative vaping device designed by the French company and manufactured by Kangertech, one of the most famous Asian manufacturers in the Shenzen district. The French company has developed a personal vaporizer, powered by an 18650 external battery, which has the great peculiarity of being a smart device capable of interfacing with a smartphone through a dedicated app, and above all equipped with a dual function allowing nicotine level control or mixing of two different e-liquid flavors. Before explaining in detail the characteristics of Enovap Plus, I start as usual by reporting the contents of the package I’ve received.

IN THE BOX

1 x Personal Vaporizer Enovap
2 x Enovap pods (0,6 ohm)
2 x Drip tips
1 x 500 mAh USB cable
1 x Grey Protective Cover

DESIGN AND BUILD QUALITY

The most striking feature as soon as you come into contact with this mod is its quite generous size. The Enovap lines are certainly graceful and modern and the design could be defined as absolutely minimal. And ultimately it is. Except that you could be a little surprised by a definitely out-of-standard height, that could make this device a little bulky and not truly portable. From the constructive point of view the device, made of aluminum and zinc alloy, is impeccable, burr-free and, in my opinion, really well-finished in every detail; moreove, when you hold it, it feels like a solid and extremely robust product.

Enovap has a large, circular “fire” button on the front, a lock/unlock button for the pod section, a button for airflow adjustment; on one of the two sides of the box there are two transparent windows at the top to check the e-liquid level, a bright display of about 1.2″ and three function buttons (“+” and “-” button and a central one to select the device functions).

FEATURES

Enovap has a height of 120 mm, is 47.6 mm wide and has a thickness of 23 mm, for a total weight of about 233 grams including the protective cover. There are two drip tips to outfit (with 510 connector): one in stainless steel for DL vape, with an inlet hole of about 6 mm and a outlet hole of 7.2 mm in diameter and a second flared black tip (probably in delrin) more suitable for MTL or restricted flavor chasing with 5.5 mm inlet hole and 5.8 mm outlet hole. As previously mentioned, the device is powered by a 18650 battery to be purchased separately. I want to remind that the battery  should preferably be charged with an external charger, even if there is a 500 mAh micro USB port under the device base.

Great attention should be paid to the Enovap technical characteristics, unquestionably unique in the vaping world. What is so innovative on the Enovap device? It is equipped with two cartridges (pods) with integrated coil which can “interact” with each other thanks to the installed chipset. Basically it is possible to ask the circuit to draw from one of the two pods or simultaneously from both in variable percentages. Enovap can therefore be defined as a dual pod system, capable of mixing the e-liquids contained in each of the two pods at will and thus allowing to adjust the hit in the throat, changing the nicotine level while vaping, or to mix two different e-liquids. Let’s take a closer look at how it works.

  • Hit control mode: in this mode it is recommended to use two e-liquid with the same flavor but with different nicotine levels. The e-liquid with the lowest nicotine level will be filled in the left pod, the one with the highest concentration of nicotine in the right one. After filling the e-liquid, re-house the pod modules in the mod. Then double click on the central function button and hold it down for a few seconds. The display will show the mode screen. With the “up/down” buttons select “hit control” and confirm your selection with the central button. The display will now ask you to select the nicotine level of the left pod and then the one of the right pod. After completing this mod setting, the user can vape adjusting the preferred nicotine concentration with the “+” and “-” buttons;

  • Flavor mix mode: in this mode the manufacturer suggests to use two different flavors with the same level of nicotine to avoid any change in the nicotine concentration while changing the flavor mixing. Here too you just have to fill the two pods with the chosen flavors, double click on the central function button and hold it down for a few seconds to enter the selection menu, you will then select “flavor mix” and confirm the selection with the central button, as described above. The display will ask you to select the nicotine level of the left and right pod. Once this operation is completed, you can vape by mixing the two flavors in different percentages of your choice (for example 100% from the left pod and 0% from the right one, 70% from the left pod and consequently 30% from the right one and so on).

Enovap plus can supply up to 55 watts but the display shows the delivery power expressed as a percentage value and not in watts. The airflow control system is unique but still effective; it’s realised with a button (just below the drip tip) with a drop-down movement (from top to bottom and vice versa) that opens or closes the grating window for the air inlet.

COILING, WICKING AND FILLING

To access to the cartridges you have to remove the pod module from the box first by moving to the right the button marked with the padlock icon and located under the airflow control. Once the pod module has been removed, it is possible to work on the two anti-leaking cartridges. In fact, Enovap pods mount integrated and non-replaceable coils. The French manufacturer has set up two types of pods for its smart device: DL pod with 0.6 ohm SS316L coil and MTL pod with 0.9 ohm SS316L coil.

The pods fits into position by simply pressing them, so for the replacement it is sufficient to pull them down. The Enovap refill system is also very easy. It’s a classic system whereby a silicone cap should be removed to expose a slot for comfortable refilling.

PERFORMANCES AND FLAVOUR

The performances of Enovap Plus have positively surprised me in every sense! On the one hand I was able to verify how effectively the circuit manages the dual pod system with a precise and punctual mixing of the liquids or the nicotine level in the two pods; on the other hand I noticed how the  18650 battery management is truly enviable and is able to guarantee a more than good vaping autonomy. From the tests carried out, without quoting any exact data and numbe and considering that the battery autonomy battery depends on several factors (battery type, pod used and vaping power), I can tell that with Enovap isn’t difficult to get through a whole day.

The enviable technical performances are accompained by the very valid aromatic performances with both pod types. What struck me most is the extreme ductility that the pods have shown with various types of e-liquids: whether they are tobacco liquids (preferably synthetic or hydrolates), creamy, fruity and/or fresh e-juices, the Enovap pods always offer an excellent aromatic yield. It has an undisputed ability in faceting and not compressing the aromatic facets even with the most complex e-liquids. To want to be picky and critical all the way, it must be said that these pods are not suitable for those organic tobaccos so appreciated by the Italian vapers and even the MTL pod is not able to guarantee a real tight draw but only a typical restricted flavor chasing puff or at least a loose MTL puff.

TO CONCLUDE

Enovap Plus is a new and intelligent system that deserves the right consideration within a sector that, especially in the last five years, has paid more attention to quantity than quality/innovation, a sector thet has and continue to produce a myriad of very similar systems and devices with few “variations on the theme”. I conclude allowing me to suggest Enovap as a device that could also be very useful for e-cig shops to let new customers and potentially new vapers try quickly different nicotine levels and allow them to choose the ideal concentration to start vaping with.

Autopod50: the first pod system with dual mesh coil by FreeMax

In the boundless universe of entry level vaping systems, whether they are AIO, pod systems, kits or other, it is increasingly difficult to emerge by proposing captivating and truly innovative solutions. In Italy the market for neo vaper products has undergone and is still undergoing a considerable downturn together with a generalized stop of the whole sector. In the presence of a negative economic situation, it is natural that it is more difficult to be able to emerge and to be able to impose new products on the market. For example, will a pod system that uses innovative coils be sufficient to determine a good sales success? This is what we will discover shortly by testing for you the FreeMax Autopod 50, the first pod mod in the world with double mesh coil.

We start as usual with observing the contents of the packaging of the product received.

DESIGN AND BUILD QUALITY

Solid and robust in its features, the Autopod 50 has not completely convinced us from an aesthetic point of view, since, although it has very pleasant colors, it has rounded lines that do not convey the idea of a modern product; a design that frankly looks a little dated. In addition, the volume and weight of the device, certainly not negligible, contribute to restoring a feeling of a device that may also be technically valid, but which in my opinion has not been taken care of in the best way in terms of aesthetics even if it’s able to guarantee more than discreet ergonomics.

The mod (made in zinc alloy, we believe) has a “fire” button and two function keys that would appear to be made of plastic material; between the “fire” button and the function keys there is a well-lit rectangular OLED display of about 1″ (1 x 2.8 cm) showing the battery charge level (with graphic icon and not in percentage), the coil value, the vaping parameters (volts and watts), the puffs count and the vaping time in seconds. On the top of the mod houses the pod which is held in place thanks to two very powerful magnets.

I conclude this chapter with two small negative notes:

  • the manufacturer declares (on the product box and on its website) the presence of a protective silicone case for the mod that is not actually present in the package;
  • the instruction manual is incomplete and poorly translated into Italian (but I also believe in other languages) and omits some important indications, especially for the less experienced vapers.

FEATURES

Autopod50 has a height of 94 mm, is 43.5 mm wide and has a thickness of 24.5 mm, for a total weight of just under 152 grams. The FreeMax device can take advantage of an integrated battery of 2000 mAh and thanks to the 2A USB type-C port it can fully recharge according to the manufacturer in about 80 minutes (it recharges up to 50% in 30 minutes). Unfortunately, from our tests we verified that the time taken to fully charge the device was about 100 minutes.

The device turns on/off with the canonical sequence of 5 close clicks. Instead, by clicking the “fire” button in rapid sequence 3 times you access to the settings menu, within which you can set the timeout time (5-15 seconds) and reset both the puff count and the overall vaping time and finally restore the factory settings. With Autopod50 it is not possible to set types and vaping modes, which is understandable if you want to make the device as easy as possible for the newbies vaper, but then we ask ourselves the utility of entering the possibility of entering the “SET” menu to substantially modify parameters of minor importance.

Continuing with the characteristics of Autopod50, it should be remembered that it is possible to lock/unlock the device by pressing the “+” and “-” buttons simultaneously and rotate the screen with the sequence “fire” and “-” button.

Finally it seems necessary to remind you of some important protection functions for the user:

  • atomizer short circuit – if is detected a coil value of less than 0.1 ohm;
  • timeout – the device stops dispensing if the “fire” button is kept pressed continuously for longer than the time set by the user (which can be between 5 and 15 seconds);
  • no atomizer – if is detected a coil value greater than 3.0 ohms;
  • too high temperature protection;
  • low battery protection.

The Autopod50 pod has a capacity of 4 ml in the standard version and 2 ml in the TPD version and mounts the FreeMax new AX2 coils. These are the manufacturer’s latest generation mesh coils (Coiltech 4.0) made with SS904L military grade and with Tea Fiber Cotton formula which should guarantee high level performance. And we will see it soon.

COILING, WICKING AND FILLING

Removing the coil from the pod is a relatively simple operation even if it requires a minimum of attention; you must first remove the pod from its compartment and make sure it is completely empty, to avoid running into unpleasant e-liquid leaks. Ypu have to turn counterclockwise the airflow control until it stops, then you have to continue with a slight rotation and at the same time pull the base upwards. At this point you can unscrew the coil from the base and replace it with a new one.

The e-liquid refill is a very simple work, which is carried out simply by removing the blue silicone cap under the pod and inserting the beak of the bottle inside the large and comfortable refill slot.

PERFORMANCES AND FLAVOUR

The Autopod50 Kit has been designed for not too expert vaper who want to try to vape in sub-ohm. In this sense, although the built-in battery has a capacity of 2000 mAh, it must be said that the duration of the battery depends heavily on the coil used and the supply power; in principle, if you consider an output around 30-35 watts, the device manages to guarantee a generous half day of vaping, approximately 5-6 milliliters of e-liquid.

Regarding the aromatic performances of the two coils made by FreeMax, the first absolute double mesh coils for pod systems, we observed the following:

  • FreeMax Autopod50 AX2 Mesh coil 0.25 ohm: with this coil the vaping range indicated by the manufacturer is 35-50 watts; in our opinion, the coil is perfectly expressed around 40 watts with the airflow completely open, managing to give a dense, intense vapor and full of excellent aroma. It is a typical and very pleasant flavor chasing vaping, ideal configuration for e-liquids with high VG concentration and creamy and fruity flavors, also very complex and rich in facets;

  • FreeMax Autopod50 AX2 Mesh coil 0.5 ohm: the vaping range indicated is 15-35 watts with an optimal vaping point which in our opinion is around 20-25 watts; the vapor production is good but less fat and dense than the 0.25 ohm coil and still has an excellent aroma. Here we are evidently in the field of restricted flavor chasing and in the face of a tendency to have a more dry vape, we have also found a more pronounced hit than the previous coil. The differences are however minimal and the aromatic performances remain optimal for all types of e-liquids that prefer generous vaporizations and not too low wattages.

TO CONCLUDE

The FreMax Autopod50 Kit, while presenting some small imperfections and a design that in our opinion is not entirely convincing, offers the vaper the main element that is absolutely required from a personal vaporizer, an excellent aromatic restitution and a vaping that is ever more satisfying. An undoubtedly interesting product, moreover marketed at a very competitive price.
