With the hottest months just around the corner, we decided to return to the frozen lands of Dr. Frost and offer another review of its freshest aromas from the Polar Ice Vapes line. Discovered during Vapitaly 2018, throughout the last year, we vivisected and reviewed these concentrated aromas, the result of well-tried and not entirely new recipes on the international e-liquid scene. The Dr. Frost beat the widely tested path of the Malaysian tradition (oh yes, because they are Malaysian liquids made for the English market) in manufacturing e-liquids for vaping, fruity and fresh, indeed better to say iced.

The Malaysian productions, it is undeniable, have for some years a certain appeal in the sector and in our opinion they are however always (or almost always) worthy of attention, if only because the Malaysian liquids, are absolutely the ones that best of all can transfer the sense of jovial freshness typical of vaping. Fun and cheeky.

The complete line of Dr. Frost consists of six flavors: Orange Mango Ice, Grape Ice, Watermelon Ice, Strawberry Ice, Cherry Ice and Honeydew Blackcurrant.

Thus, with today’s tasting of Honeydew Blackcurrant, our polar journey to the realm of Dr. Frost ends. Honeydew Blackcurrant is thus officially presented:

Sweet and ripe honeydew melon breaks out into a cluster of juicy blackcurrants with a frosty ice finish.

The bottle in my possession is a 60 ml chubby gorilla and contains 20 ml of flavoring, to which must be added 40 ml of vegetable glycerine (if you desire with nicotine). Little space for creativity has been left for the product label, very simple and straightforward: brand logo (a snowman among the ice with a cylinder and a stethoscope at the neck to testify that this is indeed a doctor) on a semitransparent colored background (a color for every flavor). Regarding product information, the label shows the name of the e-liquid, its content in ml and type (“concentrated aroma”), warning information, ingredients, warnings of use and manufacturer’s personal details. Complete the label a barcode identifying the production lot, and the usual symbols of danger and prohibition for children under 18 years.

On the smell, Honeydew Blackcurrant enhances the penetrating power of an intense blackcurrant that emerges from the bottle with great vehemence, showing all its sour and wild notes. The character of the currant together with a non-negligible alcoholic veil, minimize the perception of the sweetest fragrances of this recipe which should be guaranteed by the presence of a ripe melon.

In fact, after repeated pressure on the bottle, I can smell sweet and fragrant spikes emerging from the back, in which I recognize the aromatic tones of the melon, but to be honest they seem more than ever stunned in this smell test by the more acidulous components of the mix.

I entrust myself to the vape test by dripping the first drops of Honeydew Blackcurrant inside my Geekvape Ammit MTL RDA, a very valid atomizer especially for an absolutely unbeatable quality/price ratio, and I begin to test the e-liquid features during the vaporization.

The puff has immediately the liveliness typical of the liquids of this manufacturer, it is fresh and overwhelming and is appreciated for its decidedly summer connotations. With a flavor chasing vape and therefore with low wattages, the ice impact is certainly more contained and in my opinion this improves the pleasantness of the whole as well as the aromatic restitution on the palate of the various ingredients.

Honeydew Blackcurrant under the cheeky robes of a spirited and summery liquid, actually hides a more complex aromatic structure than I could imagine especially when compared to the previous e-liquids of this manufacturer.

The top notes of Honeydew Blackcurrant are the prerogative of a vibrant and very realistic black currant that takes the aromatic scene with resourcefulness but also with great intelligence. The Ribes Nigrum stands out in inspiration with its characteristic “foxy” taste but unlike what was perceived by smell, during the puff it is not over-dosed indeed, it seems to me very well calibrated. A demonstration of this is the fact that in the central phase of the vape, a pleasant sweet-acidulous contrast is proposed on the perfectly balanced palate.

Soft and velvety shades of melon appear and are perceived more and more clearly within the aromatic structure of Honeydew Blackcurrant.

The Honeydew melon (for us simply green melon), has North American origins and its cream-white pulp is rich in juice and sugar, with a delicate and sweet fragrance that makes it one of the most delicious fruits to to be consumed during the summer.

The value of this e-liquid is manifested in the sweetness conveyed without the use of sweetening agents but only with the aromatic characteristics of melon, which stands out in all its naturalness, combining very well with the deeply different but equally alluring nuances of blackcurrant.

And a light ice cover runs through them…

Suggested dilution: about 33% = add 40 ml of vegetable glycerine inside the bottle containing the aroma.

Steeping time: Immediately ready.

Pro: The harmony of a summer recipe that knows how to blend very different aromatic elements very well.
