Vapefly continues with the construction of MTL atomizers
Among the many Asian manufacturers that are increasingly numerous in the vaping sector, Vapefly is a young and dynamic Chinese company that has distinguished itself in the last two years for some of its MTL vape products.
The manufacturer, after the excellent success with the Galaxies series and especially with the Galaxies MTL RDTA, is back on the market with the brand new Holic MTL RDA, obviously hoping to repeat the success achieved in recent months.
We start as usual by looking at the contents of the package.

DESIGN AND BUILD QUALITY
The Holic MTL RDA is a dripper designed in collaboration with Horic TV, one of the most famous vape youtuber in Japan, which takes up some technical concepts already developed on the Galaxies RDA and on the excellent Galaxies RDTA. The atomizer has a diameter of 22 mm and is made of stainless steel with gold-plated pins (the manufacturer does not provide information on the type of steel and gold plating). The construction quality looks good, perfectly in line with the most recent productions of the major Chinese manufacturers. Perhaps we are not in the presence of one of the best alloys available on the market, but certainly the Holic does not regret at all under the constructive point of view also in virtue of a precise, clean and free of smudges processing. The tolerances and resistances of the o-rings on the deck are equally precise.
In terms of design, the Holic has the shape of a small mechanical piston. The lines are rather graceful and are enriched by some aesthetic incisions on the highest part of the top cap. Complete the graphic design of the atomizer, a black delrin drip tip that goes well with the RDA body, maintaining excellent line continuity.
22.2 mm in diameter, 41.7 mm in height, 34.5 g in weight: these are the numbers of the Holic MTL RDA, numbers that tell us that we are in the presence of a light and relatively compact dripper (even if not among the smallest in circulation); a dripper consisting of a deck, the top cap and the delrin drip tip.
The Holic deck, as we anticipated earlier, takes up some successful technical solutions already adopted in the Galaxies MTL RDTA. As it was easy to understand, it is a single coil atomizer with slots for inserting the side and opposite coil legs. On the central part of each post there is a small slotted screw intended for adjusting the side airflow; a solution that allows the coil to take advantage of a flow of air not only from the bottom but also from the side, for a 360-degree overall surround “round” of air. On the outer edge of the deck, we can see two small excavations that allow to properly stand the support that houses the coil to be mounted.
In correspondence of the slotted screws, but slightly lower, there are two air inlet holes with a diameter of 2 mm. The juice well for the positioning of the cotton are quite deep (the dripper has a capacity of about 1 ml) and this guarantees the vaper a good range of puffs between a dripping/squonking operation and the next.
Moving on to the discussion of the Holic top cap, the first thing that needs to be emphasized is that its interior design is almost identical to that of the Galaxies MTL RDTA, with a lowered dome finish which, thanks to a special processing, is able to avoid condensation problems, returning excess liquid to the underlying cotton. The only small difference compared to the Galaxies, lies in the thickness of the lowered part which, in the latter case, is less accentuated.
On the outside of the top cap there are the airflow control holes; there are nine in total divided into two groups of six and three holes respectively. The dimensions of the air holes are as follows: 2.0 mm – 1.5 mm – 1.0 mm – 1.0 mm – 1.5 mm and 2.0 mm on the side with six holes and 1.0 mm – 1.5 mm and 2.0 mm on the side with three holes. By turning the top cap on two o-rings on the deck, you can choose the preferred combination of air opening, from a single open hole of 1.0 mm up to two open holes of 2.0 mm. There are six possible combinations in total. If you add to these combinations the possibility of adjusting the lateral air flow from inside the deck, you can imagine how the entire AFC system, already studied by Vapefly for the Galaxies RDTA, is really well designed.
COILING, WICKING AND FILLING
The installation of the coil on the deck is very simple for anyone with a minimum of familiarity with rebuildable systems. The legs of the coil in opposite position fit perfectly in the corresponding slots and once tightened the small allen screws (we would have preferred, however, slightly more massive slotted screws), everything will be perfectly centered on the deck. Even the cotton insertion operations are very simple and easy, as it will be enough to house the cotton whiskers (be generous in length) inside the two large side trays.
If you use the Holic MTL RDA in bottom feeder configuration, there is little to fear even from squonk operations; in fact, even for vaper with less sensitive fingers in exerting pressure on the e-liquid bottle, over squonking is almost impossible, both for the capacity of the juice well and for the abundant cotton that is housed there.
PERFORMANCES AND FLAVOUR
The performance of the new Vapefly branded dripper is good but in our opinion slightly lower than those observed for the Galaxies MTL RDTA. The puff, which can vary from extremely closed to medium airy, is very fluid and linear, but slightly less silent than its big brother. The lateral air flow works very well (in this case perhaps even better than in Galaxies) and is able to substantially modify the type of vaping and the aromatic yield, which can go from rather dry to medium-bodied and round.
The drip tip has excellent ergonomics and we have not noticed any condensation problems. Its only small flaw is the behavior in MTL configuration with only one 1.0 mm air hole open, in this case in fact the drip tip tends to heat up a bit even in the presence of medium-low wattages (from 13 watts upward). Probably an ultem or resin drip tip would, if not completely solved, contained and limited this problem.
With regard to the most suitable e-liquids to be used on the Holic, it must be said that the atom has proved to be quite versatile and able to perform well with different types of e-liquids. In our opinion, the best performances are obtained, however, with fruity and flavoured tobacco e-liquids, but it does not look bad at all even with clear tobacco blends and light single tobacco e-liquids. Versatile yes but not at 360 degrees, because in our opinion its performance with creamy e-liquids is inferior to both the other types of liquids just mentioned, and to the performances offered by the Galaxies MTL RDTA.
The newborn from Vapefly, while taking up most of the technical solutions of the Galaxies series and being built very well, is in our opinion slightly lower in terms of performance than the atomizer that preceded it. From its part there is certainly the highly competitive price, probably destined to fall slightly over time, as almost always happens with many atomizers after a few months from their first commercialization.
All those who appreciated the qualities of the Galaxies MTL RDTA will certainly not disdain the performances of this Holic MTL RDA, which could support with dignity its elder brother in the Vapefly MTL family.
